Abstract
This research examined the influence of healthcare leaders’ cultural intelligence on affective organizational commitment of registered nursing staff. The purpose of this study was to determine whether hospital registered nursing staff members are more committed to their organization when their leaders exhibit cultural intelligence. This research was a quantitative, correlational study, utilizing the expanded Cultural Intelligence Scale to measure leaders’ cultural intelligence and the Three Component Model of commitment to measure professional nurses’ affective organizational commitment in a large healthcare system in the Great Lakes region of the United States. The research study identified only one significant relationship between leader cultural intelligence and follower organizational commitment; Metacognitive planning cultural intelligence evidenced a significant moderate negative correlation with follower affective organizational commitment. Therefore, this study indicated that, within the setting of this study, cultural intelligence of leaders does not increase affective organizational commitment of followers and may possibly result in unanticipated negative consequences
