I recently had the opportunity to help develop a very neat information tool for painting contractors: A new electronic newsletter. This newsletter is actually SIX newsletters nested together - each covering various industry niches. I was very proud of the work our crew had done on this project... and then I thought of my friend Mark.
Mark is a 35-year-old residential painting contractor, who started in the business in seventh grade. He's known in our community for his professional sales presentations and bids, and for the quality of the work he does on old Victorian homes.
The same day we fired out the first issue of the newsletter, Mark attended a meeting of a men's group to which I belong. At the conclusion of the meeting the leader asked Mark for his e-mail address: And I was reminded that Mark doesn't have an e-mail address.
"If I was on the Internet," he said, "I'd just find ways to waste time. And I don't have enough time as it is for my business and my family."
A fellow who understands exactly where Mark is coming from is Jonathan Spira, founder of Basex, one of the world's top firms in knowledge management research and consulting. I recently had the opportunity to talk with Jonathan about his new book, Managing the Knowledge Workforce: Understanding the Information Revolution...
