Question: Who is the sport's winningest active Top Alcohol Dragster driver? Answer: Mike Kosky. His eight career national event victories put him ahead of Bill Reichert, Duane Shields, and David Wells, each of whom has seven.
Kosky, 62, enjoyed most of his noted racing success in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The 40-year drag racing veteran got his start racing a '32 DeSoto with his brother Butch and his father before switching to an A/Gas Dragster shortly thereafter. Kosky got ahold of his first blower in 1966 and put it on top of a 396-cid big-block Chevrolet, a rare combination at the time because General Motors had banned the engine from use in racing applications. Kosky acquired the engine by "backdooring" it out of a dyno shop in New York. He ran that combination in an altered before switching to blown dragsters in the late 1960s, and he has raced that type of entry ever since.
Kosky raced a gasoline-powered blown dragster in Top Gas and won the Division 1 title in 1971, then raced that car in Comp the next two years when Top Gas was merged into Comp. In 1974, Kosky joined Pro Comp during the...
