Abstract

In a recent contribution to this journal, Frederike Wuermeling argues that there is a causal link between the rather low level of support for the EU's core principles amongst the Turkish public on the one hand and the country's low GDP and its large muslim population on the other hand. Her analysis, however, suffers from a whole host of serious methodological and theoretical flaws. Therefore, the core claims of her paper are untenable.[PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
