To boost growth, United Stationers Inc. is increasingly looking to supply its corporate customers with more than paper and pencils.
Just days after last month's annual meeting, where United Stationers CEO Richard W. Gochnauer sketched out ambitious plans to boost earnings, the company announced it was acquiring Sweet Paper Corp., a distributor of janitorial and sanitation products as well as food service items.
Sweet Paper, based in Hialeah, Fla., had sales of $250 million last year. United Stationers said the $124.5-million acquisition would start adding to earnings by 2006.
