STRIP DISTRICT - A restaurant wholesaler is setting up shop here, spanning nearly a city block to provide supplies to local restaurants.
The Restaurant Depot, a cash-and-carry operation, expects to open in mid-February in a 45,000-squarefoot space on the Allegheny riverfront.
"We have everything that a restaurant operator would need under one roof," said Jim Kohler, director of marketing for Jetro Cash and Carry, the New Yorkbased food wholesaler that owns the Restaurant Depot subsidiary. "And the restaurant operator gets the advantage of being able to select what he or she needs."
The new Restaurant Depot will be located between 32nd and 33rd streets in the Strip District in a newly built warehouse, selling both food products and restaurant equipment.
Considering the Strip District's longstanding reputation for wholesale food business, Mr. Kohler said, the neighborhood was a natural one in which to locate.
