DOWNTOWN, June 9 - The industrywide consolidation movement led by the likes of U.S. Steel Corp. and International Steel Group Inc. apparently is continuing.
Dearborn, Mich.-based Rouge Industries Inc. said Monday it is conducting "preliminary and exploratory discussions" with a potential unnamed acquirer.
"While no terms of any possible transaction have been discussed, the potential acquirer is undertaking an informal review of Rouge's assets and its business, in an effort to determine whether it has any interest in pursuing a transaction with Rouge:' the company said in a news release.
Whether the potential buyer might be Pittsburghbased U.S. Steel, Cleveland-based IS or even Middletown, Ohio-based AK Steel Corp. - which lost out to U.S. Steel in the battle to acquire bankrupt National Steel Corp. - is unclear.
