Delta Computer Corp.'s planned new Akron plant is welcome news to company president and area native Eugene Taylor, but he said it was hard at first for him even to consider Akron as a potential site.
"I didn't want to put the board of directors in the position of relocating the business into the president's hometown," said Mr. Taylor, 39, a native of Mogadore, which is just east of Akron.
As the site search progressed, however, it became evident that Akron was the perfect spot for the new plant, which will manufacture computers, disk drive units and computer peripherals while also serving as a research center for the rapidly growing company.
"The board made the decision, and I abstained," Mr. Taylor said.
"When it came down to it, Akron had the R&D (research and development capabilities) that we needed," he said, referring to ongoing polymer...
