Although Tom Weisz never has driven a big rig, he has steered a company specializing in getting trucking companies from point A to point B using a mere 2.5 million lines of computer code.
Since 1983, when he traded in a high-paying software development job and company car, Mr. Weisz has headed TMW Systems Inc., a trucking logistics business he founded in the basement of his University Heights home.
"All the stars aligned on April 1, 1983 - the force was with me," Mr. Weisz joked. But in reality, a combination of events led to Mr. Weisz striking out on his own.
The trucking industry was deregulated in 1980 and personal computers were introduced by IBM in 1981.
