Olicom Inc. has released one of the first portfolios of high-speed token-ring products to hit the market.
And Olicom believes its products -- a 100Mbps token-ring file server adapter and a two-port high-speed token-ring uplink module for Olicom's CrossFire 8600 token-ring switch -- have been released two to three months before the competition will come out with anything similar.
"It's important to emphasize that everything has moved along as scheduled, and that a year from the date of announcing it, it's shipping," said Andrew Sage, Olicom's regional vice-president for Canada, based in Toronto.
Albert Daoust, analyst at Toronto-based Evans Research Group, agreed that Olicom meeting its first stated deadline for high-speed token-ring is important.
"If they had missed it, forget it," he said. "This is their last chance for token-ring, and they made the deadline and lived to fight another day."
The server adapter, the RapidFire 3530 High-Speed Token-Ring 100 PCI Adapter, is a plug-and-play network inter-face card that enables network managers to seamlessly boost file server bandwidth to 100Mbps (200Mbps full duplex).
