Abstract

[...] she pioneered the use of population isolates to investigate polygenic diseases, such as multiple sclerosis, schizophrenia, bipolar disease, obesity, and heart disease. In recent years she accepted a role as Visiting Professor at the Broad Institute, one of the world's leading genetics institutions and assumed the position of Head of Human Genetics at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute in Cambridge, UK-posts she held concurrently with her roles in Finland.
