People who complain that they put more time into their job than their boss should go to work for Barbara Ashkin at Carousel Center in Syracuse.
Ashkin, the big shopping- center's general manager, meets with her department heads every morning at 8 o'clock. To get ready for the meetings and tend to other details before the day begins, Ashkin is on the job at 6 a.m.
"Preparation is very important," Ashkin says. And those morning meetings are an important daily event.
"Our staff is empowered to make decisions and solve problems," Ashkin says. "I would rather have a wrong decision made than no decision at all."
