Building and opening a 3,000-room resort might seem a difficult task. It might even faze someone with the responsibility. Unless, of course, he's already opened a 5,000-room resort.
Vince Matthews, vice president and general manager of the Monte Carlo Resort & Casino, has been there before. He was vice president of hotel operations at the MGM Grand when it opened, working with Robert Maxey and the rest of the opening team.
Matthews says that's a big reason why he and his current staff are prepared.
"Opening the MGM, we learned a lot," he says. "We don't have to go to school on this, we learned that this worked, that that didn't work."
