REVIEW: Although some might question the use of the past tense in describing the War in Iraq, Cordesman (strategy, Center for Strategic and International Studies) analyzes the military lessons of events leading up to George Bush's aircraft carrier declaration of "mission accomplished" on May 1st, 2003, as well as addressing some of the failure to "keep the peace" following the "end of major combat." After a blow-by-blow chronology of the invasion, he reviews the major strategic debaters among war planners and assesses lessons for combat both overall and for each of the services. The lessons of Iraqi problems are also assessed. (©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR)
