The Release Of Version 3 Helps Company Expand Its Market
Long established as one of the leaders of high-end tools for the 2D/3D graphics and animation industry, Discreet is now taking a bold step forward into the desktop market with its release of combustion 3.
According to Discreet's John Worthington, director of product marketing and management, desktop video, combustion 3 is part of the company's strategy to make its technology available to a wider audience. Earlier in the year, Discreet had already moved towards broadening its market by introducing combustion 2.1 at a lower price point. Now, with version 3, the company is not only including new features, but also the types of features users at the desktop level are asking for.
"With version 3, combustion is going in a much broader direction than it has ever gone before," says Worthington. "Rather than it just being a package for creating traditional effects, we listened to our users and added a lot of features that enhance what they're doing. Also, by adding more features, version 3 is a great option in an economy that's as tight as it is. 1 mean, people don't want to purchase a lot of extra applications and they don't want to take the time to learn new things. At the same time, they don't want to turn away work. So, where traditionally there would be lots of parts to a project that different people work on, we are now offering a tool that gives users the opportunity to do all parts of a project themselves."
Worthington explains that one of the first features the company added to combustion is an edit operator, "combustion 3 is the first effects application to have integrated editing.
