Graphics Pioneer Moves Ahead In 2002
As we near the end of 2002, many companies are starting to reflect on a year and an industry that were both riddled with economic challenges and uncertainty for the future. However, from NAB on, there also seems to have been a sense of optimism, or just plain faith that things will yet again turn around.
Despite the shaky ground we walked on in 2002, Chyron seems to be one of those companies that have emerged almost unscathed, and clearly aiming to remain one of the leaders in production, post, and broadcast solutions. Since it introduced its first character generator in 1970, Chyron's product line has grown to include a range of on-air graphics options, storage solutions, signal processing, and distribution.
At NAB 2002 alone, the company made several important announcements related to the introduction or upgrades/enhancements to its many product lines. For instance, it introduced several additions to its Duet line of graphics and animation broadcast systems, new products and software enhancements to its Aprisa line of still and clip servers and software applications, new additions to its CODI line of character generators, the creation of Lyric Plug In for Avid AVX allowing Avid operators to integrate a full-featured version of Lyric (Chyron's 2D/3D content creation graphics software) directly into various Avid nonlinear editing programs, the introduction of the Sirius router family, and the expansion of its popular Axis range routing switchers to include Axis HD. In addition to these product announcements, Chyron also had plenty of company activity to report as well, including partnerships, new programs, and the recent projects completed using Chyron products. FOX Sports, for instance, used Duet to complete its on-air coverage of NASCAR.

Q: Overall, where would you say that the company is right now? What's your position within the industry? What is your current focus?
A: Chyron has been through significant changes over the last three to four years, as we've worked to maintain our dominant position in the graphics market. For years, our iNFiNiT! product range had been seen...
