Big Performance in a Compact Package
Sea trials were conducted in June 1999 with the TRITON(R) ST 200, Perry Tritech Incorporated's latest development in the Cable Maintenance and Burial ROV market. Perry Tritech is the robotics affiliate of the Coflexip Stena 200 follows the highly successful XL 250 line of vehicles first introduced in 1995, and incorporates the advances PTI has made in its product line architecture since that time. Deeper depth ratings, single-mode fiber-optic transmission of data and video, more efficient and cost-effective hydraulic systems, and more optimized jetting arrays have all been added to the ST 200.
A key feature of the ST 200 is the available lightweight track package. Hydraulically driven tracks, two on each side of the ROV, can be driven at speeds from a very accurate and controlled 18 meters per minute to 2.3 kilometers per hour for survey work or transit. When soil conditions permit, use of the tracks allows 85 percent of the total system horsepower to be supplied to the jetter water pumps. This improves overall production by as much as 150 percent when compared to jetting in the freefly mode. The modular track sets are easily installed on or removed from the ROV with four bolts and three hose connections per track. The units are very lightweight, so that no buoyancy blocks need to be added or removed with the tracks. All adjustments to freeflying or tracked weight and trim are handled through lead trim weights. Stowed or deployed by hydraulic actuators, the...
