Following lhe successful launch of its new defence division, Austal Defence, at the Pacific 2004 exhibition in Sydney earlier this year, Western Australian shipbuilder Austal has hosted a series of influential international military personnel at its shipyard.
During the exhibition Austal Defence received visits from delegations including the United Kingdom Ministry of Defence and the Russian Government. They also met with lieutenant General Edward Hanlon, Jr. who is Commanding (General of the U.S. Marine Corps Combat Development Command.
Visits to the shipyard began with high-ranking representatives from the United States Army's Tank-automotive Command (TACOM) who met with Austal senior management. TACOM has already indicutcd its intention to issue a tender for the design and construction of a scries of higb speed Theatre Support Vessels (TSV) that would be similar to the 101 metre Austal catamaran already operating with the U.S. Marine Corps.
