This is the first of what I hope will be many BOOKMARK CENTRAL columns. BOOKMARK CENTRAL is planned to be a way for information professionals to help each other cut through the clutter of Web searching by sharing hard-won URLs to sites rich with content. The goal is to accumulate lists of carefully selected, reviewed, and annotated sites on specific topics.
BOOKMARK CENTRAL will also cover the genre of directories and evaluative sites in general. We will do in-depth, critical reviews of sites such as the Argus Clearinghouse, the Mining Company, Cyberstacks, the Virtual Library, and many others. This will all be done to provide information professionals with a better understanding of what is available, who is out there evaluating and selecting resources, and how to find the needed resource as quickly as possible.
BOOKMARK CENTRAL lists will come from submissions from you, our readers, as well as from the ONLINE and DATABASE writers and columnists. The column will focus on timely, useful collections submitted prior to publication. The BOOKMARK CENTRAL column will be supported by the BOOKMARK CENTRAL Web site on Online Inc.'s Web site (http://www.onlineinc.com/bookmark), so you can log on and just click to put the bookmarks to use.
The power of BOOKMARK CENTRAL will be the sharp focus of its topics. For each bookmark, we are looking for five, ten, 20, maybe 30 URLs...
