REVIEW: A specialist in elementary mathematics education, Ashlock (emeritus, Covenant College) developed a graduate program for future teachers (U. of Maryland). This volume could be used in such a course, but he hopes that practicing as well as student teachers can learn his approaches for helping children learn mathematics more easily. He emphasizes the importance of teachers paying close enough attention to students that they can catch and correct computational errors immediately. Earlier editions appeared from 1972 to 2006.
