The Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. wants a new North White Plains supermarket to increase the size of its current store, as well as less space for small shops at the shopping center it controls.
If the plan is approved by officials in the town of North Castle, the new "Super Stop & Shop" would resemble new supermarkets that Stop & Shop will build in New Rochelle and has proposed for Yonkers. In North White Plains, Stop & Shop wants a new 59,802-square-foot supermarket with 7,700 square feet of adjacent retail space at the North White Plains Shopping Center, off Route 22 at Reservoir Road.
The plan is the latest incarnation of a supermarket expansion that has been proposed by Stop & Shop and predecessor chains for a decade. "The project has evolved into what we believe and neighborhood groups believe is a better plan from what we had before," project architect Kenneth D. Narva, a partner in PEG/Park L.L.C. of White Plains, said during a presentation of plans June 12 o the North Castle Town Board.
