Danbury Hospital has been designated a university teaching hospital of New York Medical College in Valhalla.
The designation means the Connecticut hospital will provide medical education programs for physicians and its medical staff will continue to receive faculty appointments at the college and become more involved in its academic, research and clinical affairs.
"It's recognition of a level of clinical specialty at the hospital," said Gerard D. Robilotti, executive vice president of Danbury Health Systems. He became senior associate dean of the medical college and director of medical education for the college at the hospital as part of the designation.
The designation "is based on having a significant number of training programs, having a highly specialized and highly trained medical staff, and having a commitment to being a teaching hospital," Robilotti said. "The designation is not given lightly."
