A White Plains developer and a Boston theater chain plan to build a 14-cinema multiplex at a cost of nearly $6 million in Putnam County, where as many as five other developers aspire to develop similar movie houses.
The Hampshire Land Co. of White Plains and the Hoyts Cinema Corp. of Boston intend to create the entertainment center near interstates 684 and 84 in Southeast on a parcel equal to 11 football fields.
"We concentrated our site selection search to the area along the 684 corridor which we felt had a need for a large cinema complex," said David Livshin, president of the Dager Group Ltd., a Fishkill company that helped Hoyts find the location. He declined to give a revenue projection for the project.
The two-screen Cameo Twin Theater in Brewster is Putnam's only cinema house.
