Abstract

The significant unexpected events-the serious primary challenge to Democratic Sen. Joe Lieberman in Connecticut and state Senate President Jon Tester's upset victory in Montana's Democratic primary-have not changed the fact that Democrats are likely to gain ground this November but may well fall short of taking over the Senate. The Minnesota race is expected to be a classic open-seat contest in which everything from candidate quality to campaign skills to fundraising matters.
