Holzberg reviews Timeslips Deluxe 8.0, a time-and-billing software package.
Timeslips Deluxe is the most popular time and billing package on the market today despite the fact that it's not particularly easy to use. We reviewed the beta version of Timeslips Deluxe 8.o, which consists of several separate applications, includ ing TSReport for generating client lists, bills, and reports; TSTimer for recording billable time, unbillable time, and expenses; TSLayout for bill design; and TSImport for bringing in data files from other applications.
For the new version, in addition to locating records or slips by start or end date, user, client, activity, type, or billing status, you can now search records using keywords or phrases. You can also create client slips that include billable and unbillable charges, or import information from billing histories into a Bill Message screen. TSTimer includes a stopwatch to track billable time as you speak with clients or work on projects. The client's account is updated automatically while the clock ticks. TSTimer also lets you enter two kinds of charges: time and expense.
The program offers flatfee or hourly billing. It features a variety of report options, including aged accounts receivable and client and employee histories (showing billable and unbillable hours for coworkers). Overall, Timeslips Deluxe isn't as easy to use as Billing Solution but it's the only network-based time-billing program. It may not be as feature-rich as Time & Profit, but it offers complete time and billing management tools for any small business.
