For our tests, Micron originally submitted a TransPort Trek 2 with a 266MHz Pentium II chip, because the computer maker didn't have enough 300MHz chips on hand. We tested the 266MHz notebook and recorded the results. However, at press time, Micron forwarded us a 300MHz processor fresh from the Intel factory. We popped open the notebook, took out the old CPU, and slid in the new one.
Needless to say, the chip switch made the Micron faster, although not blazingly so. It still ranked behind the Dell and a hair quicker than the Gateway. This was surprising, because during our test of the TransPort with the 266MHz CPU, it outperformed...
