As the financial services industry's interest in underbanked consumers has grown, so has the need for more and better data to help understand this marketplace.Three recent studies provide a particularly useful perspective on the opportunities.
Bearing Point and Visa recently issued a market sizing and segmentation study of what they call the underserved: the unbanked, the underbanked and unregistered immigrants. The numbers are big: 84 million people who do not have a bank account or who can't qualify for credit because their credit scores are too low, representing a burgeoning $1.1 trillion in annual income.
