WHAT'S HOT: MPC recently updated the look of its machines, shedding its basic-beige boxes in favor of contemporary-looking charcoal-and-ivory cases. Though not as swank as some other vendors' cases, they're a big step forward from MPC's dull older designs.
This is one of the first systems we've reviewed with Serial ATA hard drives, a technology that provides a higher theoretical speed limit, reduces cable clutter, is easier to connect, and eliminates the need for master-and-slave connections when attaching more than one drive. MPC packed the Millennia 910i Dream with twin 120GB SATA drives connected to a RAID controller, giving the system the equivalent of one monstrous 240GB drive. Add to that a 750MB Iomega Zip drive, a rewritable DVD drive that handles DVD-R/RW and +R/RW formats, and a 48X/24X/48X CD-RW drive, and you've got nearly every removable-storage base covered.
