MarkWatch Monitors Marketing in Cyberspace. Developed by Datalytics, Chicago, MarkWatch helps insurance companies monitor how the company and its products are being marketed on the Internet. The company says MarkWatch is an "early warning system" that alerts insurance companies to improper marketing so they can take care of the situation before state insurance regulators become aware of a problem. The company also says this service may be used to monitor marketing by agents.
The service monitors the full text of the World Wide Web, Usenet groups, databases of domain names and online news wires. And to combat the transitory nature of the Internet, MarkWatch then archives the statements to enable customers to prove what was posted on the Internet and by whom. Clients are given their choice of daily electronic reports, weekly printed reports or periodic telephone calls to warn them about problem situations. The annual monitoring fee is $895.
