STEVENS POINT - Amherst senior Heather Pearson, who helped the Falcons to their first state tournament appearance in nine years, was a unanimous selection in Division 3 to the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association state girls basketball team.
Pearson averaged 16.7 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.3 steals per game as the Falcons reached the WIAA Division 3 state title game last weekend at the Resch Center and finished with a 26-2 record.
Pearson, who is heading to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, was the only unanimous selection on the Division 3 team and is one of seven local players to be named to a first-team all-state squad across five divisions.
Seniors Taylor Petit and Maggie Negaard, from D.C. Everest and Stevens Point Area Senior High, respectively, shared the Wisconsin Valley Conference player of the year honors and both were selected to the Division 1 team.
Negaard averaged 18.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.8 steals per game for the Panthers, who shared the conference championship with the Evergreens.
Petit averaged 14.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.7 steals per game in her final prep season.
Wausau West junior Maddie Schires was an honorable mention selection in Division 1.
