The government has announced plans to ban the use of electric shock collars on cats and dogs in England.
Electric shock collars are controversial devices that allow electric shocks to be given to pet cats and dogs during training. Some devices also squirt noxious sprays which, in the case of dogs, upset their acute sense of smell, or emit sounds which are painful for dogs' hearing.
Electric shock collars are already banned in Scotland and Wales, but are currently still legal to buy in England and Northern Ireland.
The proposed ban, which has gone out to consultation, would cover England.
