The Routledge Handbook of Graffiti and Street Art, published as part of the Routledge International Handbook collection, is available in both hardback and e-book form and is reviewed here in its print version. The editor is Jeffrey Ian Ross, who is a Professor in the School of Criminal Justice, the College of Public Affairs, and a Research Fellow of the Schaefer Center for Public Policy and the Center for International and Comparative Law, all at the University of Baltimore. In addition to being the editor, Ross also contributed a foreword, an introduction and three essays to the volume.
Ross’ heavy workload aside, the other 32 of the 35 total pieces in the work were written by a variety of contributors that are connected with a multitude of countries across the globe. More than half the contributors have ties to countries outside of the USA including Australia, Brazil, Canada/Montreal, Chile, Egypt, England, Finland, Italy, Japan, New Zealand and Portugal. One could suggest that an increase in authors from South/Central America, Asia and Africa would be beneficial. But such things are not always feasible; Ross himself laments that not everyone he hoped would participate was able. That said, the diverse group...
