Abstract

Information visualization is a rapidly developing and distinctive field with less than 20 years of history. It has quickly become a multidisciplinary research area that overlaps into a number of subject domains, including digital libraries, human-computer interaction, hypertext, the Web and the Internet, and information retrieval. A discussion on the field of information visualization, definitions, conceptualizing data types within the field, the challenges of representing information in 2ND and 3RD, 2ND and 3RD information visualization presentation techniques, 2ND and 3RD information visualization in the Web environment, and an introduction to the Scalable Vector Graphics and extensible 3RD standards is presented.
