Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:CTXS), Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has signed a definitive licensing agreement with UMAX Data Systems for Citrix's Independent Computing Architecture (ICA(R)), an emerging industry standard for thin-client/server computing. Under the agreement, Citrix has granted UMAX Data Systems, a manufacturer of imaging solutions and computer systems located in Taiwan, the right to embed the ICA protocol into a variety of UMAX thin-client products.
Citrix's ICA thin-client protocol will enable UMAX Data Systems to develop low-cost Windows-based terminals capable of running standard Windows-based applications in conjunction with Citrix WinFrame(R) thin-client/server software. UMAX will initially implement ICA thin- client/server technology into three separate products, including its StrongARM-based clients, X86-based thin clients as well as PowerPC- based thin clients.
