Studio level lighting in a field-portable solution
Quantum has long been known for its solid, reliable products. The Quantum Turbo series of battery packs [See Product Reviews, Feb. 2005] has provided power for countless wedding, news and event photographers.
The company's Oflash system is just as reliable, but possibly slightly less familiar to photographers, despite its good combination of size and performance. The T5d we tested is a digital-specific version of the high-power flash system, able to work with a variety of proprietary flash metering systems from a number of manufacturers.
A revamping of the QfIash line, these new models are smaller and lighter than previous systems from Quantum, though they're still considerably larger than the Speedlights often sold with the camera systems. A parabolic reflector helps kick out light that's softer than a traditional non-modified strobe, and the T5d even allows for interchangeable light shapers.
