BUSINESS ADVICE WAS THE FOCUS AT THIS YEAR'S PhotoPlus West. From the 75 seminars and hands-on workshops to the keynote addresses and free presentations on the trade-show floor, attendees seemed hungry for information about running their photography businesses more efficiently, protecting their rights as artists and creators, and finding new clients. The trade show and conference, held June 13-16 at L.A.'s Convention Center, featured about loo exhibitors and attracted photographers, reps and photo buyers from around the country, Canada, Europe and Latin America.
One of the most popular hubs of activity during the show was the Digital Learning Center (DLC). In this mini-- trade-show area of the exhibit hall, photographers were invited to bring their own images and try out scanners, printers,color management and manipulation software, or one of several new digital cameras. Anthony Cardinale, one of the DLC producers, notes: "By providing an open environment that facilitates learning through expert tutelage and one-on-one discussion with the manufacturers, the DLC can educate the consumer so they feel comfortable with making an informed purchase." One attendee reported, "I extended my hotel reservation and changed my flight home to spend an extra day at the DLC."
