Abstract

Today's generation of printing managers faces unprecedented challenge in trying to squeeze out success for their enterprises in an astonishingly difficult operating environment, marked by soaring customer demands, pricing pressures, near-immediate job turnaround, competition from other media, labor shortages, and overcapacity. Guidelines for the areas most in need of development or fine tuning by printing companies include: 1. Management is a balancing act between people and process. 2. Communication is the foundation of effective management. 3. Motivation is employee-based. 4. Managers must understand the financial aspects of the operation. 5. Recognize excellence.
