In Portman's case in the November Harper's Bazaar (left), it was her modeling the "Holly Golightly" dress worn by the late Audrey Hepburn in Truman Capote's 1961 classic Breakfast at Tiffany's. Attention given by HB editor-in-chief (since June 2000) Glenda Bailey paid off because last Tuesday (December 5), the dress sold at auction for $800,000 --after the projected winning bid ranged from $98,000 to $138,000. Beneficiary was The City of Joy Aid charity, and Bailey, HB vp/publisher Valerie Salembier, and the staff contributed by working with designer Kenny Jay Lane to create and sell a limited-edition replica of the Hepburn-worn pearl necklace. That raised an additional $40,000.
