* Sofaer Capital has lost its Asian hedge fund managers Giampaolo Guarnieri and James Soutar to U.S. hedge fund manager FrontPoint. Sofaer's global chief financial officer Tony Smith has also left to join Hong Kong-based hedge fund broker KE Absolute as chief operating officer (Finance Asia, 16/7).
* UBS Global Asset Management in Sydney has lost Michael Cowin, emerging companies fund portfolio manager. As a result, the firm has been downgraded by ratings agency ASSIRT (Money Management, 19/7).
* Guy Hutchings, cio at Tower Australia, will leave the group later this year because the group is outsourcing Australian fixed-interest and cash management to Deutsche Asset Management and Macquarie Funds Management (Investor Daily, 19/7).
* Goldman Sachs JB Were Asset Management has appointed Andrew Cooke to the new role of chief investment officer. CEO Michael Clarke previously also covered the cio role (Investor Daily, 16/7).
* State Street Global Advisors Australia has appointed Bruce Edgar, head of business development and client management at BNZ Investment Management in New Zealand, as head of client service, reporting to Rob Goodlad, director of business development. Edgar replaces Louisa Vincent, manager, investor services, who is transferring to SSgA's U.K. office.
