The first plastic fuel tank said to meet California's strict Partial Zero Emission Vehicle (PZEV) requirements has been introduced by TI Automotive Americas, Warren, Mich. Called Permblok AS6, the tank is constructed of an innovative combination of six layers of materials to reduce fuel permeation and exceed rigorous crash-test standards. The tank combines two barrier materials, ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer and a nylon-based alloy called Orgalloy FT104. The two materials are said to both reduce fuel permeation and improve structural integrity and crashworthiness. The other layers consist of HDPE, regrind, and two layers of adhesive. It offers superior performance for temperatures above 100[degrees]C (212[degrees]F).
