Changing Party Systems in Western Europe is that wonderful rarity, an edited collection that is coherent, concise, comparable, comprehensible, useful, and up-to-date. It has almost no faults, aside from relatively minor quibbles: the lack of footnotes, the lack of fit between national chapters and the general bibliography (not by nation), and the absence of some of my favourite themes or authors (such as Herbert Kitschelt and 'xenophobic populism' in the references and index, respectively).
