This timely volume deals with the contributions of a number of recent thinkers to the theory of democracy. Many of these thinkers, such as Vaclav Havel, Jurgen Habermas and Michel Foucault are not usually thought of as explicitly concerned with questions of democratic theory but the essays in this volume generally draw out well the democratic themes contained in the writings of these and the other thinkers discussed.
