Abstract

Russian researchers have found that an aberrant form of chromosome 1 found in Siberian populations of mice is about 30% larger than the wild type because it contains two homogenously staining insertions that are held in an inversion. The scientists' findings represent an exception to normal mendelian segregation and are an example of meiotic drive.
