Abstract

Heimann presents an obituary for biochemist Charles David Keeling who died on June 20, 2005. Keeling was considered a pioneer in the modern science of climate change. He looked for alternatives to the existing, questionable methods of determining variations in carbon dioxide, and eventually resorted to using an infrared analyzer.
