The advent of global positioning system (GPS) products into consumer applications has created the need for low power, small, low priced components for use in batteryoperated devices. The SiRFstar(TM)I/LX chipset and software is a second-generation product based on the original SiRFstarI products designed for automobile-based GPS navigation and tracking systems, and for solving the problem of receiving GPS signals in urban canyons and dense foliage. This new version enables GPS integration into consumer products requiring power conservation and small form factors such as in cellular telephones, pagers, personal digital assistants and portable navigation systems.
The SiRFstarI/LX chipset achieves its power consumption reduction by employing state-ofthe-art process technology combined with the TricklePower(TM) mode, a new patent-pending power management technique. This power management technique is made possible by the 100 ms SnapLock(TM) capability of the SiRFstar architecture. The move to a 3.3 V process technology provides a three-times power consumption improvement over the existing SiRFstarI products, while the TricklePower mode provides an additional five-times power reduction.
DESCRIPTION
The SiRFstarI/LX family consists of three components: the GRF1/LX front end RF chip, GSP1/LX GPS signal processor chip and GSW1/LX complete GPS software. The GRF1/LX chip...
