Paradigm Shift
Last Friday, the Islamic Society of Boston's Cultural Center celebrated its grand opening - amid controversy. For one thing, the official Jewish community stayed away. Though some rabbis from Hebrew College attended the opening, the Jewish Community Relations Council, which was invited - and expected to co-sponsor the event - declined.
The day before the ceremony, our new group - Americans for Peace and Tolerance, an organization of Christians, Jews and Muslims promoting authentic interfaith dialogue and opposing Radical Islam - held a press conference, documenting our concerns.
Among other things, B.C. Professor Dennis Hale, Muslim scholar Sheikh Ahmed Mansour and I played tapes of speeches by Yasir Qahdi, who gave a sermon at the Islamic Society's Cambridge mosque in March....
