GRAHAME'S younger brother Barrie was born in King's Norton, Birmingham, on September 11, 1916, and joined the Auxiliary Air Force in May 1937.
He was educated at Wrekin school and Pembroke College, obtaining an engineering degree in 1938.
On April 26, 1939, his engagement was announced while he was living at No 3 Viceroy Close, off the Bristol Road, Edgbaston, not far from his parents.
His fiancée was Miss Joy Anderson, granddaughter of the late ex-Lord Provost Sir William High, and whose parents lived at 'Woodhill' in Chiselhurst Road, Bickley, Kent.
On August 29, 1939, Barrie was promoted to flying officer with the RAFVR - and made up to flight lieutenant five days later.
