Brokers: The Trend Continues The last few months have seen important, and not unexpected, consolidation within the UK insurance broking sector. In December London-based brokers Lloyd Thompson Group plc and JIB Group plc announced plans to merge, creating an international reinsurance broking business capitalized at around 300 million.
This was followed just recently by confirmation from brokers Fenchurch plc and Lowndes Lambert Group Holdings plc that they too plan to merge pending shareholder approval. The merged company will be called Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group plc. The merger announcement said a combined group would bring together Lloyd Thompson's strength in the international London market with JIB's international capabilities elsewhere to form a strong and focused international broker. JIB is particularly strong in Asia and also has a large presence on continental Europe.
