Rechtschaffen wrote The Mindful Education Workbook to offer a step-bystep curriculum for teachers to use in the classroom with students in kindergarten through twelfth grade (K-12). He notes that mindfulness can help teachers reduce stress and can help students to be more emotionally regulated and attentive. Part I of the book contains an inner assessment for use by teachers in evaluating their own stress level, empathy, resilience, focused attention, and self-compassion, for example. Rechtschaffen suggests that teachers begin a mindful sitting practice once per day, and he includes other ideas for living mindfully throughout the day. School social workers can easily adapt these practices for their own use.
