This film is about the creation of A Christmas Carol, and includes a good portion of the tale itself. Thirty-one-year-old Charles Dickens (Dan Stevens) is a man with a problem; or rather, multiple problems. By 1843 he is a celebrity, and we see him being feted on his American trip. But now the financial pressure is on. He is subjecting his new house to expensive renovations; his improvident father (Jonathan Pryce) is behaving badly; his wife (Morfydd Clark) is expecting yet another baby; book sales are not healthy, and his publishers are looking for another hit. In the face of all this, Dickens comes down with writer's block.
